About Us

Mizuho Investment Management (UK)Ltd. (MIMUK) was established in July 2006, as an asset management subsidiary of Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd. (MHCB).

MHCB is the corporate and institutional banking subsidiary of the Mizuho Financial Group Inc. (MHFG), one of the world’s largest banking groups in terms of assets; with total assets of US$1.3 trillion as of 30 September 2007. In Japan MHCB is regulated by the Japanese Financial Supervisory Agency (JFSA).

On 1st April 2002 the MHFG, through a corporate split and merger process, reorganised the operations of Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Fuji Bank and Industrial Bank of Japan into MHCB and Mizuho Bank. MHCB primarily serves large corporations and overseas corporations.

The Leveraged Finance Group of Europe Leveraged Finance Division (LFG) of MHCB already has a strong and consistent track record as an arranger, underwriter and manager of European leveraged loans.

Over many years, it has built up an extensive network of contacts and relationships with private equity houses, investment banks and debt arrangers. LFG has established a reputation as a Mandated Lead Arranger of debt for leveraged buy-outs. In addition, LFG is an active underwriter of and participant in leveraged buy-out debt.

Through its contacts with private equity houses, LFG is also an experienced and active investor in private equity funds. MIMUK benefits from these strong relationships and LFG’s proprietary deal flow. Consequently MIMUK has a steady flow of investment opportunities and remains highly selective.

MHCB has developed a strong platform in the European market for leveraged buy-out transactions over the past 18 years. Since April 1993 it has completed over 300 leveraged finance transactions and has acted as either Lead or Joint-Arranger on over 75 transactions. Mizuho is ranked as the 5th largest Arranger/Co-Arranger over the last decade.

Having identified third party investor demand for leveraged finance and buy-out related assets, MHCB decided to capitalise on its experience and expertise under a separate wholly-owned asset management subsidiary.
